You might not have heard, but a hair transplant – although life changing – isn’t always a guaranteed solution for hair loss. As with most hair loss interventions there are pros and cons and going through a hair transplant can work for sure; but a lot depends on the surgeon, the experience & expertise, and so a hair transplant isn’t always effective. It’s relatively expensive & when it works it doesn’t always last – so repeat surgery has to be afforded all over again.
Hair transplant scars after surgery can become visible whether the treatment works or not, so what can you do about them? There are very good hair transplant surgeons of course, but even they are faced with challenges to create long term results for their clients – but they can’t cover up the scarring.
It’s very fortunate that professional scalp micropigmentation – a popular, painless treatment – is available to cover up those scars left behind by FUE and FUT (also scars caused by accidents and other surgery). Hiding hair transplant scars with SMP is not impossible it’s guaranteed, and in fact it’s a relatively quick process.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) includes removing healthy hair follicles and applying them to thinning / balding areas of the scalp. The procedure has come along way since it was first introduced, but residual scarring in the donor area can’t be avoided. Hairstyles come in all lengths, so while someone will be able to hide the scars with their longer hair surrounding the scars, another person won’t be so fortunate. SMP is the solution.
What is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT):
FUT is also known as strip extension harvesting or Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS). Hair follicles are removed from scalp usually at the back of the head (6-10 inches wide) and where hair growth is strong. The strip is separated into smaller segments so the grafts can be used in different places. The scar is caused when the strip is removed then sewed up.
What is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE):
The back of the head is shaved closely and hair follicles are removed one by one.
SMP to camouflage scars caused by surgery & accidents
It’s common for FUE / FUT hair transplant surgeons to refer patients to scalp tattoo professionals. Scar tissue, sometimes quite thick in structure, may require extra SMP sessions to for the custom ink to take. The scalp takes to the custom SMP ink pigment quicker than scars do. When a scar is treated with SMP, so are the areas around it; this is to create a natural seamless blend across the scarred area.
Benefits of SMP for scar camouflage
What if you don’t have enough hair follicles to get the results you want from a hair transplant? There can be a noticeable difference between the hair and the transplanted area, so SMP can be used for blending and concealing to give a more natural result. As mentioned before, SMP can be applied to the scarring to give the effect of hair follicles to the scarred area.
Custom non-toxic inks are used with colours to match your own hair colour (all hair colours).
Works for all scalp scar sizes.
Works for shaved, short and longer hair.
Change your life, become more self confident and improve your self esteem.
Other known hair transplant problems:
It is hard to conceal scarring with just a hair transplant
There is usually scarring where grafts are extracted and applied
Potentially there is an insufficient amount of donor hair follicles to cover the whole scalp and hairline
Scar healing time before having SMP?
FUE and FUT scar camouflage with SMP can be done 8 to 12 months post surgery. This is to make sure the wound and the scar tissue is fully healed. Best results will be accomplished after 12 months.
